Job summary

We are looking for a Nursing Associate (Full or Part Time) to join our large, friendly GP practice. The right person will complement our forward-thinking nursing team working alongside GPs, Physician Associates, Clinical Pharmacists, a Social Prescriber, Care Co-ordinators and Drugs Counsellor.

You will become a member of a supportive and professional nursing team (6 Practice Nurses and an Assistant Practitioner), benefit from an experienced group and be a core member of the Practice in providing effective and patient centric care. The practice is involved with the local PCN, giving you access to a wider team, training opportunities and a wider supportive network.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have completed their Nursing Associate training and be registered with the NMC.

The main duties are:

To complement the role of the GP, Practice Nurse and other Health Professionals as an integral part and key member of the care team.

To make the best use of clinical skills within the practice in order to promote well-being and maximise health gain for patients.

To provide a safe, high quality and accessible treatment room service to the practice population.

The nursing associate duties cover extended hours which includes Saturdays and weekday late evenings, shared fairly among the team.

Key Responsibilities:

Professional:

  • Provide continuing care to patients across the practice population.
  • Treatment room duties in line with competency e.g. Suture/clip removal, Basic wound care, ECG, Phlebotomy, Urinalysis
  • Assessment and planning of delegated care
  • Monitoring of long-term conditions and well-being of service users including escalation of interventions when necessary
  • Administering of Medication in accordance within regulatory guidelines for Nursing Associates
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of clinical care and monitor outcomes
  • Contribute to ongoing assessment recognising when it is necessary to refer to others for reassessment
  • Be able to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
  • Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the primary health care team.
  • Preserve confidentiality.
  • Empathise with, and support people to improve and maintain their mental and physical health and wellbeing
  • Pro-actively prevent and protect against disease and ill health and act in the best interests of service users, carers, families and communities cared for

  • Participate fully in practice audit and quality development programmes.
  • Participate in formal tutorials and informal training of student nurses and GP trainees in the practice.

Management of Chronic Disease:

  • To develop knowledge base and support the management of Chronic Disease patients within the primary care setting
  • Checking compliance with and adherence to appropriate treatments using a holistic patient cantered approach.
  • Recognising abnormalities.

Research projects:

  • Co-operate and participate as required in any research projects within the practice.

Health and Safety:

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines.
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.
  • Reporting potential risks identified.

  • Registered Nursing Associate with the NMC.
  • Completion of Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification.

  • Ability to recognise own limitations in the context of the nursing associate role
