Job summary

A GP Assistant will support the smooth running of the practice by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to focus on the patient. This is a new role being introduced to our surgery and will evolve over time. There will be full training provided and the candidate will be allocated a GP mentor throughout the training period.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide support to clinicians
  • Take blood pressure readings if required
  • Urine sampling if required
  • Diabetic foot checks if required
  • Height and Weight monitoring if required
  • Blood sampling using the point of care testing machine if required
  • Summarising medical records
  • Assisting with referrals and paperwork
  • Readcoding patients clinical records
  • Assisting Practice Manager
  • Learning payroll
  • Updating policies
  • Helping to reach Qof target
  • Creating GP Rota's

About us

We are a 9 doctor suburban training practice with around 15,000 patients. We have a team of 2 Advance Nurse Practitioners, 4 Practice Nurses, 2 Health Care Assistants, 1 Nurse Associate and 2 Clinical Pharmacists. We have efficient management, reception, and admin teams.

The practice runs across 2 sites:

Beaconsfield Primary Care Centre

West Bank Medical Centre.

Trainee GP Assistant

Starting salary £22,816 per annum.

Progressing to £25000 per annum on successfully completing the training by the end of 12 months.

Job Summary

A GP Assistant will support the smooth running of the practice by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to focus on the patient. We are a 9 doctor suburban training practice with around 15,000 patients. We have a team of 2 Advance Nurse Practitioners, 4 Practice Nurses, 2 Health Care Assistants, 1 Nurse Associate and 2 Clinical Pharmacists. We have efficient management, reception, and admin teams.

The practice runs across 2 sites:

Beaconsfield Primary Care Centre and West Bank Medical Centre.

Duties

Clinical Duties

  • Patient health checks in the practice, the patients home or care home, to include phlebotomy, height, weight and blood pressure readings, ECG's, urine sampling and to record all information within the clinical record in line with the practice procedure
  • Diabetic Foot Checks
  • Identify abnormal findings as per the practice protocol and discuss with the appropriate clinician
  • Stock checking of clinic rooms

Administrative Duties

  • Assist with reception duties - answering incoming calls to the practice and care navigating patients appropriately
  • Register and deduct patients
  • Assist with admin and secretarial duties - dealing with incoming post using the Docman system, typing letters using Lexacom and processing referrals.
  • Summarising records
  • To be involved in the patient recall system using software such as AccuRx, PATCHS and MJOG

Training will be provided in house

The trainee would be encouraged to take part in the GPA Skills certificate by Health Education England. This is an accredited training programme based on a competency framework.
