About us

St Bartholomews has a large team, including GP partners, salaried GPs, pharmacists, ANPs, a Paramedic, Practice nurses, HCAs and a phlebotomist. They are supported by an invaluable admin and reception team.

We are in the process of merging with Hollow Way Medical Centre and have recently formed our own PCN.

Our main surgery is at St Bartholomew's, on Manzil way. We currently have two branch surgeries, one of which cares for the students and staff of Oxford Brookes University, the other is South Oxford Health Centre at Lake Street.

We are a training practice, supporting trainee GPs, medical students, pre-reg nurses and pharmacists.

We work hard, support each other as a team and encourage everyone to achieve their work life balance.

Job responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Nursing

  • Offer advice and administer childhood and adult vaccinations under patient group directions according to national immunisation programmes.
  • Offer health promotion and lifestyle advice on diet, alcohol intake and exercise.
  • Offer a holistic approach in monitoring patients with chronic diseases according to NICE guidelines
  • Perform cervical cytology smear tests
  • Perform venepuncture
  • Wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines and local policies.
  • Suture/staple removal.
  • NHS Travel immunisation
  • Perform ECGs
  • Able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
  • Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
  • Ensure infection control and cold chain guidelines are maintained.
  • Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration cold chain management and emergency equipment.
  • Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including Safeguarding Children and vulnerable adults.
  • Support the lead nurse and colleagues.

Administration and professional responsibilities

  • Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team
  • Identify changes to clinical practice that are required to implement evidence-based guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate and contemporaneous notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patient electronic records

Maintain confidentiality at all times as per practice policy

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Practice

Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports

Attend and participate in Practice meetings as required

Assist in formulation of Practice philosophy, strategy and policy

Restocking and maintenance of clinical areas and consulting rooms

Order and maintain safe storage of vaccines ensuring that the cold chain is maintained at all times.

To assist in the delivery of the national immunisation programmes including the annual flu campaign, Meningitis ACWY and child immunisation campaigns.

Support other clinicians with their training and development needs
