Job summary

We are looking for a non clinical GP Assistant to join our multi-disciplinary primary care team. the Role will support our clinical teams in caring for our population in GPNET5 in Croydon.

Main duties of the job

There are ambitions and exciting plans for Primary Care Networks in England. Here at our PCN we are committed to building and developing our network to make the most of the opportunities for partnership working so we can continue to provide the best possible healthcare services for our patients.

A GP Assistant will support the smooth running of clinics by performing routine administrative and some clinical tasks on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to provide better access.

You will work closely with patients, management teams , partners and external contacts.

You will be working for Friends Road Medical Practice who with four other practices form GPNET5 and you will be joining an established team of three other GP Assistants.

GPNET5 PCN is made up of 5 Practices, Birdhurst Medical Practice, Friends Road Medical Practice, Haling Park Medical Practice, Stovell House Surgery & Violet Lane Medical Practice.

This role gives the exciting opportunity to work with a large committed team and to help shape the delivery of services and projects to the patient population. This role will be pivotal to supporting the patient population of all 5 member Practices.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions

Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.

Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes

Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients

Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.

Explaining treatment procedures to patients.

Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies

The role is different in each practice depending on the practices needs.

Essential

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
  • Willing to work towards a GP Assistant Certification qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of coordinating tasks and liaising with multiple
  • colleagues both internal and external to the organisation.
  • Experience of using technology and digital tools

Desirable

  • Primary Care experience as a Healthcare Assistant, Practice Administrator, or other.
  • Experience of working with healthcare professionals and or previous experience in the NHS or social care or relevant field.
  • Experience of using clinical systems such as EMIS.
