West Walk Surgery

Research Doctor, with option to include general GP role sessions

The closing date is 06 November 2025

Job summary

West Walk Surgery are looking for an enthusiastic doctor to join our friendly, well organised, and supportive research team at our GP surgery for 4-6 sessions (0.5-0.75 FTE) spread through the week, to ideally include Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This post is available from December, but we are happy to wait for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

We have recently been selected by the NIHR and Department of Health and Social Care to be a Primary Care Commercial Research Delivery Centre (PC-CRDC), which is due to go-live from 1st November.

You would become Sub-Investigator at our site, joining our existing team of Principal Investigator, 3 research nurses, lab technician and research administrator, as well as our wider practice team.

We would be happy to hear from experienced research doctors, or doctors looking for a change in their career path, and would provide full training and support to help doctors transition into a new role.

This could be an opportunity to work fully in research, or as part of a portfolio career.

There is not a requirement for the applicant to have a CCT in General Practice, but if an applicant is a qualified GP, it would be possible to include some GP work as part of the role if preferred or in order to fulfil revalidation requirements.

We can offer you six weeks annual leave pro rata, with NHS pension alongside a competitive salary - details available on request.

About us

Our GP practice has 14,800 patients and our wider team includes 11 doctors, a Clinical Pharmacy team, Mental Health Nurse, Physios and Paramedics. We are proud to be a sought-after training practice with regular F2s and GP registrars, and an award-winning Core Undergraduate Teaching practice. We have a daily catch-up meeting with the whole clinical team.

Located in Yate town centre, an expanding town 10 miles north of Bristol, convenient for all amenities, we are a based in a large purpose-built premises with X-ray department on site, and have a small branch surgery in nearby Coalpit Heath.

Heavily involved in commercial research for over 10 years, our busy clinical trials unit runs studies covering the whole scope of General Practice. Please see our website www.southglosresearch.org.uk for more details about our site and the studies we run.

Due to our successful appointment as a PC-CRDC, we are also recruiting an additional research nurse, an Outreach Study Coordinator, second lab technician and administrator. You would be joining an expanding, supportive and enthusiastic team with lots of experience.
