Job summary

West Walk Surgery are looking for a Healthcare Assistant specialising in Ear wax removal to work 10 hours a week over 2 days. We can be flexible on days and times.

Main duties of the job

The primary role is to assist the surgery in Ear wax removal clinics, although there may be a requirement to carry out other tasks as detailed below; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels, and subject to adequate experience and training in these areas.

We use a range of wax removal processes specifically Microsuction, Water Irrigation and Manual.

About us

West Walk Surgery is based in a modern building on Yate shopping centre. We also have a small branch surgery at Coalpit Heath and work across the two sites.

We are a forward thinking, friendly practice consisting of 10 GPs, Paramedics, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Physio's, Wellbeing Coach, Practice Nurses, HCA's, all supported by a large admin team. We all serve a practice population of 14,800.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The primary role is to assist the surgery in Ear wax removal clinics. although there may be a requirement to carry out other tasks as detailed below; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels, and subject to adequate experience and training in these areas.

a. Use a range of wax removal processes specifically Microsuction, Water Irrigation and Manual. Perform ear wax removal as appropriate. Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

b. Complete patient Heath checks.

c. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately

d. Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

e. Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required, if you have prior experience in this area.

f. Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

g. Carry out BMI checks as directed

h. Act as a chaperone as required

i. Undertake venepuncture, if prior experience in this area

j. Administer flu vaccinations after appropriate training.

k. Carry out ECGs as requested, after appropriate training if required

l. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

m. Provide support during minor operations as required, , after appropriate training if required

n Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

o. Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

p. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

q. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

r. Smoking cessasstion clinics, after appropriate training if required.
