Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, highly motivated individual to the role of Health Care Assistant. You will joining a well-established team in a well-established practice. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Health Care Assistant and ideally have worked in Primary Care before, although we are happy to support and develop peoples knowledge and skill set.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake new patient health checks
  • Support the practice nursing team with health promotion programmes
  • Support the practice nursing team with the management of chronic disease clinics
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, and recording findings accurately
  • Carry out electrocardiograms (ECGs)
  • Facilitate routine BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Carry out simple injections B12/Shingles/Pneumonia and other appropriate injections
  • Carry out INR clinics
  • Assist other members of staff with procedures, such as coil clinics and minor surgery
  • Carry out home visits to housebound patients
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Act as a chaperone as required
  • Undertake venepuncture
  • Administer flu and covid vaccinations
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
  • Recording and monitoring of fridge temperatures
  • Assist in minor ops clinic
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
  • Monitor and order stock for nursing team
  • Any other duty commensurate with the role

About us

We are a large forward-thinking practice with more than 17,200 patients, based in a purpose built building the centre of Chorley. Due to a growing list we are now looking to recruit an additional Health Care Assistant.

We have regular practice meetings, with a structured meeting rota including whole staff meetings, clinical meetings, safeguarding meeting and protected time for training. We have a multidisciplinary, clinical team made up of 6 GP Partners, 5 Salaried GPs and 4 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, who are supported by a wider team of Paramedics, Pharmacists, First Contact Physios, a range of specialised Nurses and Health Care Assistants. We are a training practice and have a number of junior doctors working at site, including FY2s, ST2s and ST3s. The practice benefits from a well-structured management team which is led by a Practice Business Manager.
