Health Care Support Worker GP Practice

Job summary

To provide support to the whole clinical team. To undertake health promotion and certain clinical activity such as BP monitoring, INR's, removal of sutures, simple dressings, assisting with minor ops under the direction of Practice Nurses and GPs.

Main duties of the job

We have an exciting opportunity for a conscientious, caring, compassionate individual to join our team. This is a patient facing role and your key responsibilities will include taking blood pressures, venepuncture, ECGs, undertaking new patient screening, health checks, health promotion and assisting the GP with minor ops and women's health procedures.

You must be computer literate and have 5 GCSE grades 4-9 or C and above including Maths and English qualifications equivalent to GCSE grade C or above. The Care Certificate qualification is desirable but will be mandatory to undertake if not already achieved. An enhanced DBS will be required.

A full training needs analysis will be undertaken and training provided as identified. Previous experience would be advantageous.

The successful applicant will require their own transport to enable travel to any of our 4 sites in Worksop, Carlton-in-Lindrick and Langold.

You would join a team of wonderful Practice Nurses, Nurse Associates, Trainee Nurse Associates, Nurse and Clinical Practitioners, Specialist Nurses, Paramedics and other Health Care Support Workers.

  • undertake screening and health promotion
  • carry out phlebotomy
  • assist GPs in minor surgery and contraceptive procedures
  • perform ECGs and blood pressures and to apply & remove 24 hour Ambulatory blood pressure machines
  • perform Tele Dermatology and understand IT software
  • take charge of stock control
  • ensure that all treatment areas and consulting rooms are stocked with correct equipment and dressings etc.
  • act as chaperone
  • maintain simple dressings
  • undertake removal of sutures and staples and basic wound care
  • participate in vaccination programmes under the direction of a patient specific directive (PSD)
  • be accountable for maintaining accurate records both manually and on IT systems, ensuring confidentiality always
  • Undertake Accredited : Healthcare Certificate
  • be responsible in safe handling of specimens and clinical waste and sharps disposal
