Job summary

Eagle House Surgery (Primary Care) GP practice is looking for a Health Care Assistant with General Practice experience. The HCA must have experience in General Practice and be familiar with the New Model of Care and the Quality and Outcome Framework. Eagle House Surgery is a training practice and has been a medical centre at Ponders End in Enfield for over 100 years. Staff will be entitled to four weeks Annual leave and one weeks study leave. The surgery also participates in the NHS pension scheme.

Main duties of the job

  • Check and test appointments including phlebotomy
  • foot check for diabetics
  • blood pressure monitoring
  • B12 injections, shingles and flu
  • basic wound care
  • New patients health checks
  • Phlebotomy
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
  • Vaccine/cold change storage, monitoring and recording
  • Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
  • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
  • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
  • Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
  • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

About us

Eagle House Surgery is a training practice based in Ponders End Enfield on the corner of Nags Head Road and Southbury Road. It has been a medical establishment for over 100 years.

We have 4 partners and 3 salaried GP's together with 3 practice nurses and 3 HCA. We are a busy, friendly practice and have approximately 13,000 patients. we have 20 Admin/Reception staff who support all the clinical team.

Job responsibilities

The healthcare assistant will work under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly follow specific guidelines and protocols to assist the practice clinical team in delivering prescribed programmes of patient care.

Their duties will include Checking and Test appointments, such as phlebotomy and foot checks for diabetics, monitoring blood pressure, administering B12 injections, shingles and flu vaccines, and providing basic wound care.

They will also conduct new patient health checks, undertake chaperoning duties, and process and manage laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses. The healthcare assistant will monitor and record vaccine/cold change storage, and restock surgical equipment and vaccines as necessary.

Their responsibilities will also include clearing and restocking consulting rooms, preparing and maintaining environments and equipment for patient care interventions, and assisting GPs during minor operations.
