Job summary
Quarry Bank Medical Centre, part of the Brierley Hill & Amblecote PCN, is seeking an experienced and confident Nurse Practitioner (V300) to join our friendly and forward-thinking team. This is an exciting opportunity for a clinician with a strong background in urgent care, walk-in centres or A&E to transition into a supportive, well-structured primary care environment.
Were looking for someone who thrives in a see-and-treat setting, capable of working autonomously to assess, diagnose, and manage minor illnesses and acute presentations. You will be trusted to use your clinical judgement and prescribing skills to deliver safe, timely care while being supported by an experienced team of GPs, nurses, and wider PCN colleagues.
If you value autonomy in your practice, want to be part of a patient-centred team, and are looking for a role that makes the most of your urgent care expertise without the pressure of high-intensity hospital work, this could be the perfect fit. Minor illness training is available if needed, and flexible working can be considered. We prioritise staff wellbeing and invest in the development of our team. Come and make a difference where your skills are respected, and your voice is heard.
Main duties of the job
As a Nurse Practitioner at Quarry Bank Medical Centre, your role will centre on delivering high-quality, same-day care to patients presenting with minor illness and acute conditions. Youll operate as a see-and-treat clinician, working autonomously to assess, diagnose, manage and prescribe for a wide range of presentations within your competence.
Youll manage your own clinic list, seeing patients independently with the support of the GP team available when needed. The role is ideally suited to someone who is confident in clinical decision-making and experienced in fast-paced environments such as urgent care, A&E or walk-in centres.
You may be involved in face-to-face assessments, telephone consultations, and on occasion, home visits depending on your preference and experience. While this is not an advanced role requiring chronic disease management, you will be expected to demonstrate safe practice, appropriate escalation, and contribute positively to patient flow and access.
We will support additional training (e.g. minor illness) if required for the right candidate. Youll be part of a collaborative team that values open communication, flexibility, and professional development.
About us
We are a dedicated and supportive organisation committed to delivering high-quality services in a safe, professional, and inclusive environment. Our teams work collaboratively with a strong focus on respect, integrity, and continuous improvement. We recognise the vital contribution of every member of staff and promote a positive working culture where individual skills are valued and development is encouraged. We are proud to offer a welcoming atmosphere, opportunities for training and career progression, and a strong commitment to staff well-being. By joining us, you will become part of a team that is passionate about making a difference every day, delivering excellent service, and supporting the health and well-being of our community.
Job description
Job responsibilities
We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner with V300 prescribing rights to join our team at Quarry Bank Medical Centre, a valued member of the Brierley Hill & Amblecote Primary Care Network . This is a patient-facing clinical role with a clear emphasis on autonomous, same-day care.
The postholder will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients presenting with minor illness, acute symptoms, and undiagnosed conditions, offering timely assessment, treatment, and onward referral where necessary. You will operate primarily in a see-and-treat capacity, supporting patient access and relieving pressure on the wider clinical team.
You will work independently within your clinical competence, delivering care aligned with national guidelines, local pathways, and safe prescribing practices. While this role does not include chronic disease management or complex case coordination, you will be expected to make sound clinical judgements, prescribe appropriately, and escalate to a GP when required.
You will typically see patients via pre-booked or on-the-day face-to-face appointments, although telephone triage and digital consultations may also form part of your working pattern. Patients will present with symptoms such as respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, rashes, abdominal discomfort, musculoskeletal issues, and other common primary care complaints.
In this role, you will:
-
Carry out independent clinical assessments
-
Take concise but comprehensive histories and perform relevant examinations
-
Use diagnostic skills and tools to reach working diagnoses
-
Initiate appropriate clinical management including prescribing under V300
-
Offer patient education and safety-netting
-
Arrange follow-up or escalation where appropriate
-
Record consultations accurately and contemporaneously on EMIS Web
You will work alongside a team of GPs, practice nurses, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff, while also engaging with our PCN-wide team of clinical pharmacists, social prescribers, paramedics, and mental health professionals. This environment fosters collaboration and shared learning, with structured support where needed.
We are a practice that encourages clinical autonomy while maintaining strong governance and communication. You will have protected time for supervision, clinical updates, and access to peer support. We hold regular MDT and education meetings, and you will be part of shaping how same-day access is delivered in the practice.
While we welcome applications from those with Primary Care experience, we also invite expressions of interest from Nurse Practitioners working in urgent care, A&E, walk-in centres, or out-of-hours services who are confident in autonomous minor illness management. If you are clinically competent and committed to ongoing professional development, minor illness training can be provided.
The working pattern can be tailored to suit the right candidate, with both part-time and full-time hours considered. You will have access to CPD support, flexible scheduling, and the opportunity to play a meaningful role in improving patient care through efficient, responsive clinical practice.
This is an ideal post for a Nurse Practitioner seeking a stable, clinically stimulating role where autonomy, collaboration, and professional respect are core values.
