Job summary

Gillingham Medical Practice is a friendly, forward-thinking GP practice committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Practice Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team.

Role Overview: The successful candidate will provide safe, evidence-based nursing care across a range of clinical duties. You will work collaboratively with GPs, ANPs, HCAs and administrative staff to ensure patients receive the best possible care and support.

Hours: 12 - 20hours per week

Interviews for this post will take place on - 6th January 2026

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

You will be expected to competently perform (but not limited to) the following clinical duties:

  • Wound management, including dressings and ulcer care

  • Phlebotomy and specimen handling

  • Vaccinations and immunisations - adult and seasonal campaign

  • Treatment-room duties including ECGs and blood pressure monitoring

  • Infection prevention and control

  • Accurate and timely documentation on clinical systems

  • Supporting patients with general advice, education and self-care management

  • Participation in audits, clinical meetings, and ongoing service improvement

  • Adhering to safeguarding procedures and professional standards

About you - we would love to hear from you if you answer yes to the following:

  • Are a Registered Nurse (NMC registered)

  • Have experience in primary care (preferred but not essential)

  • Are confident in wound care, phlebotomy, and vaccinations

  • Have strong communication and organisational skills

  • Can work independently and as part of a team

  • Are committed to high standards of patient care and continuous professional development

The following are the core responsibilities of the Practice Nurse. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care

b. Cytology (clinical scope/need)

c. Wound care/ ulcer care

d. Compression bandaging & measuring of hosiery

e. Dopplers

f. Removal of sutures/clips

g. Blood Pressure Checks

h. POC tests

i. Urinalysis

j. ECGs

k. Venepuncture

l. Routine immunisations/ Childhood immunisations (clinical scope/need)

m. Patient prescribed injections

n. Follow and implement infection prevention and control procedures/policies/audits within the surgery and legislation regarding this.

o. Complete resuscitation equipment checks as required
