Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a health care assistant to join our friendly practice at The Gamston Medical Centre. We are an innovative GP practice and are looking for an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our team. The role of the HCA is an essential part of our GP Practice team, who provide a full range of NHS Primary Medical Services. You will be working alongside our friendly patient focused clinical and management teams, providing, and delivering best care to all our patients.

A current full driving license is required.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be given the opportunity and skills to provide a wide range of services within agreed protocols, to meet the needs of the patients, carers, managers, and GPs.

Experience within the field of healthcare is desirable but not essential, as training and supervision will be provided.

Part Time vacancy - 25 hours Monday-Friday

Job Purpose:

To provide a high quality care service based on the needs of the Practice population which includes treatment, screening, preventative care and patient education by assisting the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical

Blood pressure check

New patient health checks/heart checks

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Dressings

Clip and Suture removal

Diet & lifestyle advice

Urinalysis

Chaperoning duties

Undertake home visits

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Surgical equipment and re-stocking and stock rotation (excluding vaccines)

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care

Interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and wellbeing

Any other duties for which you have undertaken training and peer supervision e.g flu vaccinations, pneumonia and B12 vaccinations, dietary advice and dressings.

Administration

To maintain accurate patient records and enter onto the computer using agreed Read Codes

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care

General

To maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all PHCT staff, patients, carers and co-workers from other agencies. Ensure all statutory regulations (e.g. Health & Safety, COSHH, etc) are implemented and adhered to

To promote a professional approach at all times by attire and attitude to patients and staff both in and out of the Practice

Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development

Attend and participate in staff and Practice meetings and in-house clinical training sessions

Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work

Any other reasonable duties that may be required from time-to-time

Assist with the implementation of standards, guidelines and policies
