clinical team.
The successful candidate will work alongside our GPs, nurses, and
administrative team to provide safe, effective, and patient-centred care. You
will support the smooth running of clinics and play an essential role in
enhancing the patient experience
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
- Phlebotomy
- Blood pressure and pulse checks
- ECG recording
- Height, weight, and BMI measurements
- NHS Health Checks
- Wound care and dressings (if trained)
- Chronic disease monitoring support
- Administering vaccinations (if appropriately trained)
- Assisting clinicians during clinics and procedures
- Maintaining clinical areas to high standards of hygiene
- Accurate Clinical record-keeping via SystmOne

Responsible to: Nurse Manager
Job Purpose
To work as part of the GP practice clinical team, providing high-quality, patient-centred care and supporting clinicians in delivering safe and effective healthcare. The post holder will assist with clinical tasks, health promotion activities, and administrative duties, ensuring the smooth running of patient services.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Phelbotomy
- Measure and record observations: blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation
- Undertake ECGs
- Record height, weight, BMI, waist measurements
- Conduct NHS Health Checks
- Support chronic disease monitoring (e.g., asthma, COPD, diabetes)
- Perform urinalysis and dipstick testing
- Assist with wound care and dressings (if trained)
- Administer vaccinations (if appropriately trained and signed off)
- Chaperone clinicians when required
- Support minor surgery and womens health clinics (e.g., coil/implant)
- Assist in management of long-term condition recall systems
- Prepare and maintain clinical rooms and equipment
Administrative Duties
- Accurately document clinical information in patient records (SystmOne)
- Ensure high standards of infection control and cleanliness
- Maintain stock levels and equipment checks
- Participate in audits, clinical meetings, and service improvement initiatives
- Process specimens for laboratory collection
- Follow practice policies, protocols, and safeguarding procedures
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as a Health Care Assistant (preferably in a GP practice or primary care)
- Good communication, empathy, and patient-care skills
- Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team
- Competent IT skills and willingness to learn clinical systems
Desirable Skills
- Care Certificate or equivalent HCA qualification
- Experience with SystmOne
