Job summary

The Senior GP role is for a GP with a minimum of 10 years experience, who can demonstrate previous leadership and management experience.

The Senior GP will support the SHP Partners and Senior Management Team in improving performance, quality and clinical outcomes within Solihull Healthcare Partnership PCN. This may be in a clinical or non-clinical capacity.

Main duties of the job

This role is envisaged to have more leadership responsibility than a traditional salaried GP role but without the personal risk and responsibilities associated with Partnership. The role is developmental, and we will work with the Senior GP to develop a package of developmental support and mentoring.

This post would suit:

  1. Experienced Salaried GP's wishing to undertake a senior clinical role.
  2. Retired Partners wishing to remain committed to clinical care.
  3. Partners wanting to stop being a Partner, but still wish to have a senior clinical role in SHP.

Job responsibilities

The Senior GP will:

Assume responsibility for clinical performance at a Team level servicing a personalised GMS list.

Work in partnership with the Clinical Leads and Senior Management Team to attain all CQC, UO/DES/IIF and other local and contracted requirements.

Work with the Executive Partners and Senior Management Team to promote and deliver best practice care.

Develop and provide clinical supervision of for the wider clinical team, including but not restricted to SGPs, Nurses and ARRS roles.

Think innovatively about the future, and how to provide care in the context of the Fuller Stocktake Report and NHS Long Term Workforce Plan.

Be encouraged to think about developing and leading services with income-generating opportunities within the Solihull Healthcare Partnership PCN.

The post holder can take part in leading on key disease areas (monitoring trends in the Quality and Outcomes Framework, Diabetes 8 Care Processes and Triple Target control, immunisation uptake, screening uptake, local KPIs, staff training and prescribing) and assist in developing appropriate healthcare services for a diverse, patient list (NHS Choices and GP Patient Survey, patient participation, and health promotion).

Closely supported by the SHP Partners and Senior Management Team the post holder will act as the senior clinician within the practice but will also be part of the BIG Teams across the Solihull Healthcare Partnership PCN. The role will be at the forefront of delivering an innovative model of primary care service provision operating in partnership with other local practices offering integrated primary care services.

  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration
  • Inclusion on the NHS England performers list
  • Vocational training certificate or equivalent
  • Annual appraisal and revalidation, and maintain

Experience

Essential

  • A medical practitioner whose name is included in the General Practitioner Register under article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003
  • Not subject to suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983
  • Qualified General Practitioner of a minimum 10 years standing
  • Currently on the NHSE performers list and not suspended from that list or from the medical register
  • DBS CRB clearance
  • Have had an annual NHS appraisal
  • 10 years minimum experience as a General Practitioner
  • Previous senior leadership/GP Partnership experience
  • Understand the health and social needs of a PCN patient population
  • Understanding of the current issues and challenges facing primary care
  • Think innovatively about the future, and how to provide care in the context of the Fuller Stocktake Report and NHS Long Term Workforce Plan.
  • Provide services to the practices patient population to the highest possible standard, in line with competencies and professional code of conduct
