Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Job Purpose

You will provide a professional, welcoming and efficient service to patients while supporting the administrative and operational functions of the GP practice. You will ensure that patient enquiries, appointments and administrative tasks are managed accurately and promptly, helping to deliver a smooth, safe and patientcentred service. This role requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a busy primary care environment.

2. Key Responsibilities

Reception & Patient Support

You will be the first point of contact for patients, offering a friendly, professional and compassionate service.

You will manage patient enquiries in person, by telephone and online, signposting appropriately.

You will book, amend and manage appointments in line with practice protocols.

You will support patients with repeat prescriptions, registrations and general queries.

You will maintain a welcoming reception area and ensure confidentiality at all times.

Administrative Duties

You will process incoming and outgoing correspondence, including clinical documents, emails and tasks.

You will accurately update patient records using the practice clinical system.

You will support referrals, recalls, long term condition reviews and other administrative workflows.

You will assist with data entry, reporting, audits and quality improvement activities.

You will maintain organised filing systems, both electronic and paperbased.

Operational Support

You will contribute to the smooth running of daily practice operations, including reception and backoffice functions.

You will follow practice policies, protocols and standard operating procedures.

You will support clinicians by ensuring documentation, results and information are available when needed.

You will participate in rota cover and support colleagues during busy periods or absence.

Communication & Teamwork

You will communicate clearly and professionally with patients, colleagues and external services.

You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support safe and effective patient care.

You will take part in team meetings, training sessions and service development discussions.

You will help maintain a positive, supportive and inclusive working environment.

Compliance & Governance

You will follow all practice policies, including safeguarding, infection control, health and safety and confidentiality.
