Job summary
The Service Manager is responsible for the operational management, performance, and delivery of high quality services within the organisation, ensuring they are safe, effective, responsive, and aligned with NHS priorities and organisational objectives.Working collaboratively with clinical teams and senior management the post holder will lead on service planning, performance management, workforce management, and continuous service improvement, ensuring services meet contractual, regulatory, and quality standards.The Service Manager will play a key role in driving efficiency, managing resources effectively, supporting staff development, and maintaining a strong focus on patient experience, quality, and outcomes.
Main duties of the job
Provide operational leadership across GP Federation services, ensuring safe, effective, and high quality delivery in line with NHS and commissioner requirements.
Manage the day to day running of federation led services across multiple sites.
Ensure delivery against contractual, performance, and quality standards, including LES, PCN delivered services, and nationally commissioned programmes.
Monitor service performance against KPIs and take action to address variances.
Lead on service improvement, development, and transformation initiatives supporting primary care sustainability.
Identify and manage operational risks, incidents, and complaints, ensuring appropriate learning and governance processes are followed.
Lead on workforce planning, recruitment, rota management, and staff development, promoting staff wellbeing and an inclusive culture.
Support budget management and monitor activity, income, and expenditure to ensure delivery within agreed financial parameters.
Ensure compliance with relevant NHS policies, governance, information governance, and statutory requirements.
Act as a key liaison with GP practices, PCNs, commissioners, and system partners, representing the federation as required.

Act as the first point of contact for operational issues arising across GP practices and federation services, responding promptly and escalating where required.
Liaise daily with GP practices, PCNs, clinical leads, and service staff to coordinate activity, staffing, and service delivery.
Monitor rotas, staffing levels, and service cover, addressing sickness, vacancies, and short notice changes to ensure service continuity.
Review daily and weekly performance data, activity reports, and KPIs, identifying issues or trends and taking corrective action.
Support staff with day to day management queries, including supervision, absence management, and resolving operational concerns.
Ensure services comply with NHS policies, information governance, safeguarding, and health and safety requirements during routine operations.
Manage and respond to incidents, complaints, and service concerns, ensuring appropriate actions are taken and learning is implemented.
Maintain regular communication with commissioners and partners regarding service delivery, activity levels, and operational matters.
Track service activity, income, and expenditure, flagging variances and supporting budget management.
Prepare routine operational reports for updates for senior management.
Attend and contribute to operational, clinical, and stakeholder meetings, representing the federation and supporting collaborative working.
