Our Trust

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust comprises Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge. With over 9000 staff and over 1100 beds the priorities of the Trust focus on a quality service which is all about people – patients, staff and partners. Recognised as providing ‘outstanding’ care to our patients and rated ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commissioner, is testament to the skill and dedication of the people who work here. CUH’s values – Together- safe, kind, excellent – are at the heart of patient care, defining the way all staff work and behave. The Trust provides accessible high-quality healthcare for the local people of Cambridge, together with specialist services, dealing with rare or complex conditions for a regional, national and international population.

The Clinical Genetics Laboratory at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, is applying new sequencing tests to diagnose a wide range of genetic diseases, many of which could not have been tested for previously. As a result, the Laboratory is expanding and is looking for Genetic Technologists (band 5) with enthusiasm for working in a forward thinking clinical genetics laboratory.

The successful applicants will join a team of experienced scientists and technologists applying new and existing technologies to provide a high quality service to patients referred locally and from around the world.

Applicants must have a number of years of postgraduate experience working in a diagnostic genetics laboratory. You must be proficient in genotyping, sequencing, PCR assay design, and sequence data analysis, and must be meticulous, a good communicator, and able to organize yourself and others.

The East Midlands and East of England NHS Genomic Laboratory Hub (EMEE GLH) is one of seven Genomic Hubs recently established to provide the new National Genomic Medicine Service for NHS England. Led by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and working with Nottingham University Hospital and University Hospital Leicester, the EMEE GLH will offer a high quality service to deliver the tests listed in the National Genomic Test Directory, for a population of 10million. This includes diagnostic tests for inherited disorders and for cancer, disease monitoring and predictive tests, and in future will include pharmacogenomic testing. The Laboratory in Cambridge is based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus where world-leading academic and industry scientists are co-located alongside the renowned teaching hospitals of the University of Cambridge, providing an optimum environment to translate research findings into clinical practice.

The GLH is currently in a mobilisation phase, undergoing large scale change to consolidate several services on a single site which will facilitate large scale, high throughput, high quality and efficient genomic analyses. We are therefore looking for highly motivated applicants who wish to pursue a career in diagnostic genomics to join our expanding laboratory and contribute to this exciting phase in the evolution of a national Genomic Medicine Service.
