The BRC Genomics Research Platform at Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Trust (GSTT) and King’s College London (KCL) uses cutting edge technologies to enable fast tracking of research into clinics. We are seeking to appoint a Technical Manager to support R&D, participate in service provision and to manage the day-to- day Genomics workflows in the lab. In addition to participating in service delivery via processing a variety of service projects, the post holder is expected to optimize new protocols for R&D, prepare SOPs for service provision, manage a small team of genomics technicians, delegate R&D and service projects to wet lab team members and check SOPs prepared by junior staff. You will be responsible for smooth service delivery and ensuring compliance with good lab practices and standards set in the lab. The post holder will be required to develop automated optimized workflows for new service implementation, process service projects and provide training to new clients on instrument operation. Highly experienced in genomics workflows, you will lead trouble shooting for wet lab workflows for service and R&D projects and train other members of staff on new protocols developed by you. A close interaction with all members of the BRC Genomics team is essential.


The post requires at least 10 years of experience of providing genomics technical services for multiple types of library preparations, including single cells, on various liquid handling systems and platforms. Demonstrated experience in operating Illumina sequencers, optimizing automated protocols for genomics service delivery is essential. Experience in training and managing staff is desirable. The post requires focus and attention to detail in all aspects along with an ability to manage & prioritize a diverse workload. The post holder is expected to have good comprehension of service operations and good communication skills.


Successful candidates will have an interest in learning, developing and optimizing molecular workflows for the latest technologies. The ability to work proactively without direct supervision and to manage a small team is essential.
