The national cancer strategy; Achieving World Class Cancer Outcomes: A strategy for England 2015 – 2020 set an exciting vision for the transformation of cancer services to radically improve cancer outcomes and to ensure that patients can benefit from high quality modern services. Central to delivering this agenda are nineteen Cancer Alliances, which have been established on regional footprints as a crucial step in implementing this and subsequent NHS strategy documents such as theLong Term Plan.

Many of the priorities for cancer rely upon the formation of strategic partnerships with academia, research, and other professional allies. Genomics is one such area, and Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance has formed a strategic partnership with the North West Genomics Service to deliver improved pathways for priority patient groups. As the host organisation for this role, Alder Hey Children’s hospital will also play an important part in the implementation of molecular testing in cancer.

The role

The Cancer Genomics Project Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of pathways and processes for molecular testing in priority groups, including paediatric cancer, blood cancer and sarcoma in the Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance Region.

The post holder will work to achieve the outcomes set out in the NHS Long Term plan, by facilitating the mainstreaming of genomics into day to day NHS service, embedded across care pathways, supporting timely diagnoses and treatment choices.
