An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced paediatric dietitian to work in paediatric primary ciliary dyskinesia (0.5wte) and paediatric cystic fibrosis (0.2wte) specialities. Have you got solid experience in paediatric dietetics and want a career development in some specialist areas?

The National Children’s PCD Management Service was originally commissioned by NHSE in 2013 across four paediatric respiratory centres in the UK one being Leicester/Birmingham. The original specification for a multi disciplinary team is to now be expanded to include dietetics and psychology support.

We are looking for a Senior Specialist Dietitian to join a dedicated multidisciplinary team working alongside a Paediatric Respiratory Consultant, ENT Surgeon, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Physiotherapist with support from physiology and audiology based at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Childrens Hospital.

You will be a core and valued member of the multi-disciplinary team providing a specialist nutrition and dietetic service to PCD and CF children and families (approx 100/annum). You will establish, lead and develop the LLR and Birmingham regional PCD dietetic service, collaborating with the national PCD Dietitians within the three other national centres. You will provide a clinical care pathway for the children with PCD with defined care packages eg annual review and dietetic treatment alogrithims.

You will provide a proactive and co-ordinated paediatric dietetic service to outpatients, inpatients, day case patients supported by digital home monitoring interface with the children and parents/carers. Excellent communication and team working skills are essential along with an understanding of working with children with long term respiratory conditions and their families and carers. You will deliver face to face consultations at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester and Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Birmingham alongside the MDT. For the Paediatric CF sessions, you will work alongside another Dietitian.

You will have a great opportunity to develop clinical leadership skills. There will be a requirement to develop a quality improvement programme with measured outcomes for these patient groups.

The Dietetic and Nutrition Service is a progressive service with 60 Dietitians, Nutrition Nurses, Dietetic Assistants and Support Team that will support you professionally.The service actively contributes to the Trusts Quality Improvement agenda. There are also well defined CPD and clinical supervision models in place. You will be involved in pre-registration training of dietitians as we provide A,B,C clinical placements and you will play an active part in this. You will also have responsibility for line managing a member of the team and be supported in this professional responsibility.
