We are recruiting to an 8b Clinical Psychology post in Paediatric Neurology. We welcome applicants with Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology, who are HCPC registered, and have substantial post qualification experience of working in physical health services.

The successful candidate will join our well-established Paediatric Health Psychology Team in Newcastle upon Tyne. The Paediatric Health Psychology Service is committed to child and family centred care and we want to appoint an experienced Clinical Psychologist who is enthusiastic about working with children, young people and families, and has a good understanding of issues for patients and families living with long-term physical health conditions. The successful candidate will have a significant amount of consolidated post qualification experience and application of specialist neuropsychological assessment, formulation and treatment of children and families in health care services.

You will work into the Regional Paediatric Neurology Service, based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary Hospital in Newcastle. There will be close working relationships with other paediatric Clinical Psychologists as well as with the Adult Neuropsychology Service.

Working as part of the multidisciplinary team the post-holder will:

    • provide specialist neuropsychological and clinical assessment, formulation and treatment of paediatric patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings
    • will have knowledge of working with children/ young people with functional neurological disorders, as well as other common presenting conditions in paediatric neurology
    • have experience of working with a wide variety of paediatric patient groups, with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
    • provide advice/consultation to the wider multi-disciplinary teams, and undertake project work, supervision of Trainee Clinical Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists, teaching, training, and service development

The Paediatric Health Psychology Team is part of the wider department of Psychology in Healthcare, enabling collaboration and support with adult psychology colleagues. There are also close links with the Doctorate Clinical Psychology course at Newcastle and Teesside Universities. Community visits are an essential part of the job and the post-holder will need to be able to meet the travel requirements of the post.
