CLINICAL FELLOW IN INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY (ST3+)

An opportunity has arisen for a cardiologist at trainee level to gain subspecialty experience in interventional cardiology at Freeman Hospital. Candidates should be nearing the end of their specialist training in general cardiology, be proficient in coronary angiography and have basic proficiency in coronary intervention. The Freeman Hospital provides tertiary cardiac services for Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and Cumbria and is supported by on-site Cardiothoracic surgery and cardiac transplantation. The angioplasty program delivers over 3000 percutaneous coronary intervention per year including PPCI, IVUS, rotational atherectomy, pressure wire assessment, laser catheters and percutaneous treatment for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. We also train our fellows in CHIP. Recently we have acquired Intravascular Lithotripsy to deal with calcified lesions and fellow will be involved with technique as well. We also perform transcatheter aortic valve interventions. The post-holder would gain practical experience in all aspects of PCI and typically attain over 400 PCI cases/yr, gain exposure to TAVI and participate in departmental research. Fellow will also have a chance to be part of our flagship Live Complex Cardiovascular Intervention course (CCI-LIVE).

After completing the fellowship program all our fellows have managed to secure excellent jobs at consultant level.

The appointment is to commence on the 24 February 2020 for 12 months.

All successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month’s pay. You will be required to sign a DBS payment form which will be issued to you as part of your recruitment process.
