CONSULTANT PHYSICIAN IN RESPIRATORY MEDICINE with an interest in Lung Cancer

This is an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with a special interest in lung cancer and general respiratory care for University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. We are the regional centre for lung cancer seeing 550 new cases of primary lung cancer annually with over 2000 patients discussed at our MDTs. Our unit is well equipped with a modern endoscopy suite, including access to chest ultrasound, EBUS, cryobiopsies and medical thoracoscopy. We also have interventional radiology, PET-CT and thoracic surgery on site. We have a full repertoire of oncology services delivering SABR and all systemic treatments. We provide tertiary diagnostic and therapeutic lung cancer services at our site. These are exciting times as we are in the process of implementing National Optimal Lung Cancer Pathway (NOLCP). As a member of a large and dynamic department there are huge opportunities for professional development.

The post holder will be expected to work with a range of services at UHL to develop and deliver high quality lung cancer and general respiratory care – these include (but are not limited to):

Rapid access lung cancer clinics (RAL

Triage meetings as part of optimal lung cancer pathway

Nationally renowned pre clinic diagnostic MDT’s

Lung cancer and Mesothelioma MDT’s

Bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) services

Support of an ongoing thoracic oncology research portfolio and MARS2 trial

Contribution to the emergency provision within Cardio-respiratory Medicine by supporting the Clinical Decisions Unit

Undertaking undergraduate medical student training

Supervision and training of junior medical staff, ANPs, Physicians Associates
