Join us and become part of the most engaged workforce of any NHS trust in England, according to the latest national NHS Staff Survey results – for the second year running.

We think you will enjoy working for us but you don’t have to take our word for it – 79% of staff who took part in the latest national NHS Staff Survey would recommend Guy’s and St Thomas’ as a place to work.

The London South Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH) and network was recently established in order to transform the delivery of genomic testing for cancer and rare diseases across South East England. The GLH will be a key element of the national genomic medicine service being implemented by NHS England to enable the NHS to fully benefit from advances in genomics.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ lead a consortium of NHS organisations and laboratory providers who will deliver genomic testing services across South London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex. The consortium includes King’s College Hospital, St George’s University Hospitals, South London & Maudsley, Royal Brompton & Harefield, and Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells, and Viapath as a delivery partner. The new laboratory hub, which will be at the centre of the network of laboratories in the region, will be hosted by Guy’s and St Thomas’, with Viapath delivering the hub capability.

Our consortium is seeking to appoint a Scientific Director for the London South GLH network to direct and lead all aspects of the scientific and innovation activities within the GLH and associated laboratories. The GLH Scientific Director will set the scientific and technical strategy for genomics for the GLH, reporting to the GLH Medical Director, and have accountability to the London South GLH Partnership Board, which includes Medical Director representation from all consortium partners.

They will be responsible for leading the GLH Science and Technical Committee, comprising scientific and clinical leads who steer the development of new technologies, platforms and approaches for genomic tests for the GLH, and will provide expert advice on new tests to be included in the National Genomic Test Directory, including the composition of gene panels.

The successful candidate will have proven previous senior leadership experience in a clinical genomic service or a major academic genomic research group. They will be a national /international expert in genomics or bioinformatics as evidenced by an extensive track record of contribution to research collaborations at national /international level, and a track record of publications in high impact peer reviewed journals.

The collaborative nature of our GLH network will mean it is essential that the Scientific Director is adept at consulting, working with and building consensus with other clinical, scientific and academic experts, both locally and nationally, in order to generate strategies and solutions that are best for our services and patients.

Consideration will be given to candidates who wish to retain existing research and laboratory interests, flexible working or secondment arrangements
