Gastrointestinal & HBP Surgery & Urology

Ward 28 & 29 Leicester General Hospital

University Hospitals of Leicester is one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England offering a wide range of general and specialist services, providing an environment that is both challenging and rewarding.

The Surgical Assessment Unit at LGH comprises of two 25 bedded wards (Wards 28 & 29) receiving emergency surgical and urology patients from the Emergency Department and from GP’s via bed bureau. We also have a Monday to Friday triage area which reviews and discharge many of these admissions.

In the next 18 months our services will be reconfigured and sections moved to the LRI and GGH site to accommodate a bigger triage and emergency surgical floor. This is an exciting time to redesign the patient pathway along with influencing the refurbishment and development of existing accommodation.

You will be required to provide support, knowledge and expertise in the day to day care and management of all the patients coming into the area. Working within this busy environment will provide you with the opportunity to develop and demonstrate your clinical, management and leadership skills.

You will need to be an effective role model, enthusiastic and motivated. Team building and influencing skills are essential to support the team in order to manage the acute patients as well as those preparing for discharge.

You should possess excellent communication skills, be visible and accessible with quality and standards as your priority. You will need to be flexible fair and adaptable to the changing needs of the service.

If you are forward thinking, dynamic and have a minimum of 3 years as a band 5 then look no further. In return you will have your own personal support in order to meet your own development needs.
