MST Therapist Advert

MST Therapists (with backgrounds in Psychology, Social work, Family Systemic Therapy, Mental Health and Criminal Justice)

Salary: £26,565 to £35,577

Job Type: Fixed Term Contract – 12 months

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week

The Multisystemic Therapy programme has been in operation in Birmingham since 2011 and is one of five interventions that form the Intensive Family Support Service for complex families within Birmingham, under the Think Family programme. This project is delivered in partnership with Birmingham Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be fully integrated within the Forward Thinking Birmingham service.

 

Multisystemic Therapy is an evidence-based community treatment model directed at young people aged 11-17 with problematic anti-social or offending behaviour, which puts them at risk of an out-of-home placement. The model represents state-of-the-art, evidence-based practice to address the multiple determinants underlying anti-social/offending behaviour in young people. The programme provides intensive home-based family interventions and also draws on models of parent training, cognitive behavioural therapy and social skills building to focus on the aspects of the young person’s ecology that are related to the problematic behaviours.

An exciting opportunity now has arisen for suitably qualified and experienced practitioners. We are seeking practitioners with experience of working therapeutically with young people and families using a range of evidence-based models including systemic, CBT, family therapy and behavioural approaches. Regular duties include assessment, treatment, and collaboration with families, young person, school and agency professionals. Therapists will function as part of an MST team and will participate in weekly team supervision and consultation. Therapists must be available to provide rotational on-call 24-hour coverage as this is an essential component of the post, as is flexible working outside normal office hours. As a MST Therapist, you can expect to develop your therapeutic skills in working with families and in applying structured interventions that target the multiple drivers to antisocial/offending behaviour under the guidance of a MST clinical supervisor and MST consultant. You will be part of an energetic team who are committed to achieving positive life outcomes for the young people we work with.
