Healthcare Science Support Worker (Known as HHTO)

The Red Cell Immunohaematology (RCI) department provides a red cell serology reference service to Blood Transfusion laboratories for hospitals within the Sheffield NHSBT regions. You will provide support work to the department including sample processing and testing, reagent production, clerical support and cleaning.

To be considered you will need either, an A level or NVQ level 3 in a Science subject, hold or be working towards a Foundation Degree or have extensive experience of working within NHSBT.

You will be required to work 37.5 hours per week (a maximum of 7.5 hours per day). The hours of work at Barnsley Blood Centre will be routinely 14:00 to 22:00 on Monday to Friday, with a day shift on a Saturday on a rota basis, expected to be 1 in 3 frequency. A day off during the week will be given when a Saturday shift is worked. Enhanced hourly rates will be paid for unsocial hours worked in line with NHSBT policies.

From May/June 2020 you will be based at our new purpose-built site, Unit D, Capitol Way, Dodworth, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S75 3FG, which is just off Junction 37 of the M1. In the meantime, you will be based from Sheffield for which you may be eligible to claim expenses for the duration of this temporary arrangement. During this period the working pattern at Sheffield Blood Centre is 13:00 to 21:00, Monday to Friday inclusive, once trained.
