Lead Pharmaceutical Adviser (Pharmacist) – 1.0 WTE Band 8B

 

Base: Charter House, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.

 

We are looking for a skilled, experienced clinical pharmacist to provide senior support to medicines optimisation initiatives and the commissioning of medicines. You will be experienced in providing expert pharmaceutical advice and recommendations.

 

You will be working with a long established and respected team of award-winning Pharmaceutical Advisers to promote good quality, safe and cost effective prescribing.

 

You will be responsible for supporting the local decision making process for medicines including the development and implementation of prescribing recommendations and guidelines. You will provide senior support to the overarching commissioning of medicines agenda. This includes area prescribing committee, national excluded high cost drugs commissioning/approval/validation, Individual Funding Requests, horizon scanning and budget setting. You will support the strategic development of pharmacy and medicines optimisation initiatives and work with relevant health care practitioners including interface between commissioners and providers.

 

We are interested in applicants with experience in working within multidisciplinary arenas, across the health economy. We are particularly interested in applicants with demonstrable significant experience in medicines information/formulary support, local decision making for medicines and commissioning. We are also interested in applicants with additional expertise in key clinical areas such as frailty, mental health, diabetes and respiratory medicine.

 

You will be required to line-manage members of the pharmacy and medicines optimisation team to support medicines optimisation initiatives and objectives.

 

Your role will be diverse to support other areas of the CCG’s medicines optimisation programme. There will be opportunities to gain and share experience and training in all activities of the team who provide a varied range of services.

 

To apply for this position, you must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a practicing pharmacist. You will have excellent clinical knowledge and proven ability to build strong relationships and influence and negotiate effectively with all levels of staff in order to achieve objectives. If you have good computer literacy, excellent communication skills, a post-graduate clinical qualification or equivalent experience; are adaptable, with good organisational and team working skills and a track record of achieving results, this may be the opportunity for you. Applicants with less than 7 years post-registration experience are unlikely to have the level of experience required.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to be able to travel around the CCG and sustainability and transformation partnership (STP) area to attend meetings. There will also be a requirement to join our rota of on-call CCG duty managers (daytime hours only, approximately one day every 6 weeks).

 

East and North Hertfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (ENHCCG), is a forward thinking ‘’Outstanding’’ CCG with 55 member practices and has commissioning responsibility for a population of about 600,000. We are centrally situated in leafy Welwyn Garden City with easy access transport points. ENHCCG is part of the Hertfordshire and West Essex STP.
