Swansea Bay University Health Board, Community Dental Service (CDS), has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person who shares our Health Board values:

"Caring for each other, Working together, Always Improving"

There is a vacancy in the CDS team for a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry. The CDS provides dental care for vulnerable people of all ages who are unable to obtain dental treatment via the General Dental Services due to some form of disability, in accordance with guidance provided by the Welsh Government (WHC/2016/002). Patients seen by the CDS include children and adults who have learning disabilities, people who are medically compromised, those who have mental health problems, people who have physical disabilities including obesity, people who experience disproportionate dental anxiety, those people who have complex social problems and cannot obtain dental care including those who are unable to leave their homes to seek care and people in rehabilitation and secure units. Often there is a combination of disabilities.

The CDS presently provides clinical services via fixed clinics, domiciliary dental care and mobile dental units across the Health Board area. The dental treatment provided by the CDS includes a full range of treatment suitable for a primary dental care setting and includes both inhalation and IV sedation, supported by a fully trained team. Bariatric services are provided by CDS in Port Talbot Resource Centre. The CDS also supports a Special Care Dentistry general anaesthetic list at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.

The post holder will provide specialist dental care to special care patients with conditions including learning disabilities, physical handicaps including obesity, mental health problems, substance abuse, medically-compromising conditions, social problems including homelessness and severe anxiety or phobias.
