The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust

£79,860 to £107,668 per annum

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust are delighted that we have been rated as a “Good” organisation by CQC and just like you, we are ambitious about what we do. We are continually striving to improve patients’ experience and outcomes.

Bring your dedication and determination here, and you will benefit from the support of an experienced and enthusiastic multi-professional team committed to the delivery of brilliant patient care.

Will you join us on this journey? Here’s more about the role and what we are looking for.

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the West Midlands providing primary, acute and community services. We have been nationally recognised for providing excellence in healthcare; we are home to the busiest and most technologically advanced Cardiac Centre in the West Midlands. We have a strong research focus; the Trust hosts the Clinical Research Network West Midlands (CRN WM), which is part of the National Institute for Health Research, the clinical research delivery arm of the NHS. This alliance makes sure that clinical research occupies the place it deserves and is a driver to improve patient care.

We are looking for two enthusiastic and forward thinking consultants to join our established team, with an emphasis on patient safety and experience. The right candidate must be innovative and demonstrate leadership skills that will support this service. We welcome applicants with a subspecialist interest to compliment those of the established consultant body.

This job offers an exciting opportunity to join our excellent team of consultants working in Paediatrics.

This vacancy is a 10 PA post which includes up to 2.5 SPA time.

New Cross Hospital is a large General Hospital which offers a sub-regional service in many paediatric specialties. There is a separate consultant and junior doctor complement for both paediatrics and neonates and we work closely alongside our community colleagues. Both the Acute and Community Children’s Services are provided by the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. In General Paediatrics the successful applicant will join a team of ten general paediatricians each with an area of special interest.

The Acute Paediatric Service accepts approximately 6,000 referrals for assessment/admission annually, serving a local population of 380,000. It comprises of a 26 bed children’s ward (including a 4 HDU beds) alongside a recently refurbished 14-bed Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU). Another 8 bed bay area is used for surgical day cases.

The successful candidate will provide general paediatric care, in both the acute and outpatient setting. They will contribute to the ‘consultant of the week’ paediatric ward system (1 in 11) and contribute to care within the co- located Paediatric Assessment Unit when on call (currently 1in 11, and 1 in 5 partial weekends). We are not resident overnight. We are developing a new rota system for Consultant cover of our PAU and Children’s ward to meet the Facing the Future standards. This will preserve the three tiers of cover. We are also currently part of a local Integrated Care Alliance for Children and Young People in Wolverhampton and looking to develop processes for paediatric consultants working closely with the Primary Care Networks across Wolverhampton.

The applicant must either to be listed on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or be within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview and have a minimum of 12months experience in their chosen specialty.
