Bury & Rochdale Care Organisation

General Medical Services provided include:

  • Urgent Care Centre (Rochdale)
  • Accident & Emergency Department (Fairfield)
  • Clinical Assessment Unit & Ambulatory Care Unit (Rochdale)
  • Acute Medical Unit & Ambulatory Care Unit (Fairfield)
  • Pioneering HEATT car service for the community of Rochdale
  • Successful quality improvement initiatives focussing on reduction in falls, hospital acquired infection and pressure ulcers
  • Regular staff engagement initiatives to include all staff in high level decision making
  • Intermediate care provision at Rochdale Infirmary and Tudor Court
  • Innovative, specialist Dementia care unit
  • Specialist Stroke Unit (Fairfield)

Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine

A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced and proactive Consultant to join our busy and dynamic team working across the Rochdale Care Organisation to provide care to patients on the wards.

The Clinical Assessment Unit- Rochdale Infirmary

The clinical assessment unit (CAU) at RI is a 16 bedded unit with integrated ambulatory care unit. The CAU accepts medical referrals from the Urgent Care Centre, FGH A&E and GP’s and community teams.

They have:

  • Daily ward rounds and review of all patients
  • Dedicated Acute Medicine junior doctor team support
  • Close working with clinicians in the urgent care centre and on site wards including Intermediate Care

The post holder will provide clinical leadership on CAU/Oasis Unit at Rochdale Care Organisation.

  • Starting at 8am on a rotational basis.
  • Provision of a senior clinical opinion on patients.
  • Clinical supervision of junior medical staff based on CAU/Oasis.
  • Appropriate specialty triage of patients on CAU/Oasis and safe discharge of a proportion of these patients following assessment.
  • Assisting the medical team of the day with invasive procedures and supervision of junior medical staff in such procedures.
  • Providing telephone advice/triage to general practitioners regarding patient management when there is no clear need for admission and facilitating the use of more appropriate services.
  • This post involves providing weekend ward rounds to the CAU, AMU and Oasis Unit on a 1:5 basis.
