The post is a replacement post, based at Macclesfield District General Hospital. The ideal candidate will be a General Ophthalmologist with a subspecialty interest which supports or is complimentary to our existing team. In addition to General Ophthalmology experience, the post holder is expected to fully competent in Phacoemulsification – Cataract Surgery. The post attracts 10 PA's but we would welcome applications from candidates who may wish to work more flexibly. The successful candidate will join a clinical team of 4 Consultants, 4 middle grade doctors, Principle Optometrist, Orthoptic team and a team speciality nurses.

The post is full time (10 PA), currently with no on call responsibility, but may involve evening work as part of the regular timetable.

Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted at the date of interview to the Register for trainees if in a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the GMC Specialist Register to be considered for a Consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee.

East Cheshire NHS Trust is an integrated care organisation and this is an exciting time for significant development and transformation of services. The district served by the Trust covers an area of approximately 255 square miles. It includes the towns of Macclesfield, Congleton, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Knutsford, Poynton, Handforth and Holmes Chapel as well as many rural areas. Services are provided in a variety of settings that include three hospitals, some community clinics and patients’ homes. The population served by the Trust is approximately 500,000.

Macclesfield is a very pleasant Cheshire town located on the edge of the Peak District. It is within easy travelling distance of many major cities and is only two hours from London by train. Manchester International Airport is less than half an hour away by car. There are opportunities for a wide variety of lifestyle and interests and the area is renowned for good housing and schools.
