Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare in hospital and the community to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.

Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.

The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.

The Trust also provides sexual health services for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.

The Medical Education department at Southport & Ormskirk NHS Trust has an extensive clinical skills and simulation education programme supporting the education and training of multi-professional groups including medical students and trainee doctors.

An opportunity has arisen for us to appoint an experienced, Clinical Education Lead who will be responsible for supporting the on-going expansion and delivery of our Foundation programme.

The newly appointed post holder will form part of the core team in the wider management, education and pastoral support of over 200 student and trainee doctors each year. They will plan and publish comprehensive annual teaching programmes in conjunction with their aligned College Tutors, Specialty Leads and Programme Coordinators.

Our team of Clinical Education Leads will expand the existing programmes of activity to ensure cross-site provision is equitable, accessible and appropriately aligned to the target groups’ curricula. Their remit will include the development of annual programme of activity, associated session plans and comprehensive resource materials.

The post holder will work as an integral part of an effective and cohesive team to develop and embed robust quality assurance and management processes, including a framework for supporting teaching observations, all of which will serve to support achievement of our contractual obligations with Health Education England (NW) and the University of Liverpool in the provision of excellent standards in medical education at the Trust.
