Junior Ophthalmic Photographer

£21,089 - £23,761 per annum pro rata

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Ophthalmic Imaging Team within The Chesterfield Eye Centre. The post holder will provide a full range of complex, specialist ophthalmic diagnostic imaging and clinical investigation service’s to a range of patients suffering from diseases of the eye and visual system.

You will possess A Level grade C+ or equivalent in either a Science base subject, Photography or ICT. Also possess GCSE’s grade C+ in English, Maths & Science.

The post holder will be flexible and accommodating to meet the needs of the service and will be expected to contribute to new ideas / service delivery for the future imaging service. Effective communication, the ability to work well within a team whilst also possessing leadership skills, is essential for this role.

Full work based training will be given to the successful candidate. Following department’s procedures and undergoing in-house assessments of competencies. Some study session from external companies may be provided in-house or attendance to external sessions may be available. Completion of full training would be expected to take up to 3 years. Once in post it would be expected for the successful candidate to be independently responsible to keep up with their professional practice and keep a professional portfolio.

Ophthalmic Imaging is a developing scientific profession and for the first time a new distance learning work based Foundation Degree equivalent program is running in, Ophthalmic Vision Science (OVS). Along side this professional development, registration with Academy of Healthcare Scientist (AHCS) is also an option. Currently registration is a voluntary option but there is a professional drive to make this mandatory. This would mean that formal training may also become mandatory undertaking the OVS qualification.
