Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, Band 6

Fixed Term Contract / secondment for 18 months, part time or full time considered

Have you heard interesting things about the work Speech and Language Therapists working with adults with learning disabilities do?

Have you ever wondered about working with adults with learning disabilities yourself?

This is a great opportunity to ‘dip your toe in the water!’ of this exciting and progressive clinical area. You might find it’s just what you’ve been looking for.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Therapist to come and join our well respected and innovative Adult Learning Disability (ALD) Directorate Speech and Language Therapy service. Therapists play an essential role within each Borough's multi-agency community ALD team and other commissioned services and contribute to a number of clinical pathways delivering high quality care to people with learning disabilities and their carers.

You will work as part of the Greenwich multi-disciplinary, integrated community learning disability team. You will have a caseload of young people/adults with varying degrees of learning disability, some of whom have complex needs including dysphagia, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, mental health difficulties and/or challenging behaviour. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary team colleagues including Social Work, Community Nursing, Clinical Psychology, OT, Physio and Psychiatry. The team is based at the Woolwich Centre in Woolwich. If you have a particular interest in transition, you can focus on this area of work.

Oxleas deliver ALD/SEND and Mental Health SaLT across three London Boroughs and other sites and we meet regularly as a clinical team. We have a robust clinical supervision structure. The Professional Lead for ALD/MH SaLT contributes to a number of Directorate Wide projects and initiatives. We are currently taking part in the RCSLT TOMS project and contributing to NHS England’s work on Dysphagia.

We have a strong focus on CPD and you will be supported to continue your professional development. Opportunities to develop your special clinical interests will also be considered.

We have opportunities for both full time and part time secondments.

Please note that Oxleas operates a probationary period, further information is available on request.
