18 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship
We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification.

You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your NVQ level 3 in Business Administration Apprenticeship Programme within the duration of the placement.

This is an office based post within the Histopathology Department, which forms part of the Cellular Pathology directorate. The department has a workload of around 64 000 patient requests per year. This presents an opportunity to be part of an excellent team working in a busy, modern hospital laboratory service.

Histopathology receives and processes patient samples to provide diagnostic reports to hospital clinicians and General Practitioners. This is a good opportunity to learn administrative work practices and work with a committed team of office, laboratory and consultant staff. As post holder you will complete an NVQ 3 in Business administration as part of the apprentice role.

The role will provide an important supporting role to the medical secretaries and consultant pathologists. Your main duties will include:

  • Organising reports for Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings for a range of specialisms within the trust.
  • Liaising with members of staff from other departments and hospitals
  • Entering patient data on the Pathology computer system
  • Assisting with the collection of data for reports
  • Sorting post, filing and scanning paper reports, retrieving and filing reports and slides.
  • Assisting with some typing duties
  • Assisting with laboratory administration duties, if required.
  • Complete NVQ 3 in Business Administration

Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants must be:
· Aged 16+
· Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three years
· Must not have a Degree, Level 4 qualification or above
· Must NOT be in any form of formal government-funded education

Qualifications and Skills Required:
· Good general standard of education
· 4 GCSE’s at Grade C/D or above (or equivalent) PLEASE CHECK JD to confirm
· Good standard of literacy and numeracy
· Good communication and interpersonal skills
· Good IT skills

Work hours are Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day, on rotation with other staff, between 07:00 and 17:00.

Full Time: 37.5 hours per week
