Who are we?

HUCprovides accessible and high quality Integrated Urgent Healthcare services in the east. When patients are ill and need the right medical attention, they can phone NHS111 provided by HUC to access medical advice, assessment and treatment. We also provide a range of other healthcare services to support patients and GPs, including Extended Access services across West Essex, running GP practices and urgent care centres.

The Role:

You will clinically assess acutely unwell patients in a variety of settings to include; own homes, care or residential homes and HUC’s own out of hour’s bases. The administration of drugs under PGD’s will be necessary at times. Some visits may require minor injury assessment which may culminate in wound closure. As part of the Clinical Advisory Service (CAS) with GP colleagues, you will form part of a wider Clinical workforce team, receiving patients as they present with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems, offering advice or referral as appropriate.

Job Summary:

This is a bank contract, with shifts available to pre-book 3 months in advance and ad hoc, to suit your availability.

You will be part of a 24/7 multi disciplinary team, supporting the Acute In Hours Visiting and Integrated Urgent Care services, including pilot schemes.

This role offers a combination of base, visiting and triage shifts. Hours include weekdays, evenings and weekends.

Acute In Hours Visiting:

  • Monday to Fridays, 9.30 - 6.30pm starting from Stevenage
  • Monday to Fridays, 9.30 - 7.30pm starting from Welwyn Garden City

Integrated Urgent Care Visiting - starting from St Albans, Borehamwood or Welwyn Garden City:

  • Saturdays, 8am - 8pm, 3pm - 11pm,
  • Sundays, 8am - 8pm, 10am - 5pm,3pm - 10.30pm

Telephone Triage, based at our Contact Centre in Welwyn Garden City

  • Monday to Sundays 6.30pm - Midnight
  • Redeyes - 11pm - 8am, to include visiting as business requires

Face to Face Consultations, from our Out of Hours bases in Hertford, Watford & Stevenage:

  • Monday to Friday 7pm - 11pm
  • Saturday 8am - 1pm, 1pm - 6pm, 6pm - 10pm
  • Sundays 9am - 2pm, 2pm - 6pm, 6pm-10pm

Role Expectations:

We are looking for qualified clinicians to support HUC's delivery of outstanding patient care.

You must be a HCPC Registered and have:

  • Minor Illness and Minor Injury assessment experience
  • Ability to work to Patient Group Directions
  • Confident in making decisions autonomously
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of Adastra and SystmOne an advantage

Current Pay Rates:

Hourly rates of pay are dependent on times and days worked, varying from £22.00 – £38.60.

On-boarding Process:

If successful, you will be paid to complete a full day’s induction, which will include system training, followed by a number of buddy shifts in varied settings to prepare you for the role.
