B6 Specialist Practitioner Occupational Therapist

An exciting opportunity covering maternity leave has arisen for an experienced and dynamic Occupational therapist to join our newly transformed learning disabilities services, working within Kirklees Intensive Support Team on a 9 month fixed term contract. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team working alongside, nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists and healthcare support workers. You will be involved in supporting adults with learning disabilities who require intensive, individualised and specialist involvement due to the risk of placement breakdown or hospital admission.

You will be required to use your specialist Occupational Therapy skills to support the assessment and delivery of high quality therapeutic interventions to address the occupational needs of service users accessing the service, many of whom may present with complex and challenging needs. The team uses a co-ordinated approach to care to enable service users to remain in the community and to reach their optimal potential. This will require effective MDT working skills, close liaison with other agencies and use of excellent communication skills. You will have previous relevant experience in learning disabilities and be able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant local and national policy. You will have experience of undertaking specialist assessment (including risk assessment) and intervention with clients presenting with significant behavioural and mental health needs, and will feel comfortable working with crisis situations.

You will have experience of supervising junior staff/students, a strong commitment to on-going professional development and a keen interest in service innovation. You will have access to regular supervision, professional networks and training. Please note that this post will at times involve working flexibly out of hours according to service demand. Any working in unsociable hours will be reimbursed as per SWYPFT policy.
