Clinical Librarian/Clinical Information Specialist

This role is an opportunity to join University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust's ground-breaking Clinical Librarian Service. Become a part of one of the UK's longest running Clinical Librarian teams in this part time role, working 22.5 hours per week, supporting a variety of clinical areas and providing the best available evidence to assist patient care and world class research.


The successful candidate will be a self-motivated and enthusiastic. Ideally you will be a qualified Librarian who will be providing a quality information service with primary responsibility to support clinical departments including our busy Emergency Dept., Women’s and Children’s Services and Diabetes. You will have a high level of skill in searching biomedical databases, and critically appraising the evidence found. Primarily based at Leicester Royal Infirmary, you will work across all of our hospital sites and will play a vital role in ensuring that patient care is based on the best available evidence.


You will promote the Clinical Librarian Service by attendance on ward rounds, at clinical meetings and other places beyond the library. You will be able to exploit all marketing opportunities for the service and be flexible in dealing with complex clinical enquiries. You will have the ability to teach library users how to find and evaluate healthcare research effectively.


Candidates will hold a good honours degree in Library and Information Sciences or an associated subject. A postgraduate degree and chartered membership of CILIP are desirable. You should have relevant experience of working in an NHS or information environment.


You should have excellent interpersonal skills, and be fully competent in the use of key electronic resources. This role is a great opportunity to contribute to an established team while also developing the service to University Hospitals of Leicester.
