Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology

Job Reference: 264-1631945-MED-B

Employer:
Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Department:
Medicine
Location:
Kettering General Hospital, Kettering
Salary:
£77,913 - £105,042 per annum

The purpose-built Community Diabetes Centre was opened in 1996 and is located on the Kettering General Hospital site.

The department has close links with Oxford, to whom patients for pituitary surgery are traditionally referred and with Northampton, where patients would be referred to receive radioactive iodine for benign thyroid disease as well as vascular intervention/surgery. There are healthy links with University Hospitals of Leicester and Northampton General Hospital. The 3 trusts meet up thrice/year under the umbrella of a Regional Pituitary – Adrenal MDT to discuss difficult endocrine cases as well as to discuss training development and challenges in the region.

This is a new post due to expansion within the speciality. The appointee will join a team of 4 existing consultants who currently deliver both inpatient and outpatient diabetes and endocrine services for the Trust. Due to the changing dynamics of chronic disease management, the structure of the consultant team is under continual review in order to facilitate an efficient interface between primary and secondary care.

The appointee will also have a commitment to acute general (internal) medicine on call, which is currently on a 1 in 16 basis week days and 1 in 10 weekends.

The successful appointee should have received training in general adult diabetes and endocrinology and should have a CCT or its equivalent in Diabetes & Endocrinology and General (Internal) Medicine (or be within 6 months of doing so at the time of interview). The successful candidate will be expected to help continued development of the local service ensuring the delivery of the quality standards in diabetes care and in particular help develop and deliver in the key areas of inpatient diabetes care, adolescent diabetes care and diabetic foot care.
