The newly developing Leeds Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Crisis Team offers assessments to children and young people who present to emergency departments in need of an urgent mental health assessment . As well as urgent and emergency assessments, we provide follow up appointments and we also hope to develop a brief intervention treatment model following the assessment.

We work alongside COS (CAMHS Outreach Service), Community CAMHS and the Adolescent Inpatient Unit, taking a joint approach to meet our shared vision.

The team will operate 7 days 9am - 12midnight. We may expand to overnight.

The Service

Leeds CAMHS provides a clinical assessment and intervention service for children and young people with severe mental health and developmental needs. CAMHS delivers mental health training, education to partner agencies and works collaboratively with staff within other agencies to meet the complex mental health needs of children and young people in the city.

The Role

You will work as a Senior Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) clinician in the Leeds CAMHS Crisis Team to provide urgent & emergency assessments and interventions to children and young people in Leeds. The newly developing Crisis Team offers assessments to children and young people who present to emergency departments in need of an urgent menta l health assessment. As well as urgent and emergency assessments, we provide follow up appointments and we also hope to develop a brief intervention treatment model following the assessment.

It is essential that candidates are registered with a professional body and have considerable experience of managing risk in a mental health setting.

As aSenior Practitioner you will be responsible for providing clinical leadership to other team members. You will be part of the service development and delivery of a new revised clinical pathway and assist in the operational aspect of this. You will be required to independently complete assessments of children and young people presenting in need of urgent mental health assessment as well as providing short term interventions based on a developed clinical pathway. You will work closely alongside other mental health practitioners in a MDT to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate client care and interventions at a specialist level. You wi ll also work alongside community CAMHS, CAMHS outreach and the CAMHS in-patient service, taking a joint approach to meet our shared vision.

About You

To join us in this role, you will need demonstrable working knowledge of mental health difficulties experienced by children and young people. Experience of multi-agency and team working as well as the ability to work autonomously are essential for this role.

Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to travel independently across the locality, and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

We are currently based at Little Woodhouse Hall on Clarendon Road - however this may change in the future so clinicians need to be prepared to work out of different bases around the city.

The goal of this service improvement is to provide a 24 hour, 7 day a week service in line with the service growth and development. Therefore these hours of work may be an expectation of the role in the future.
