SHO TRAINING ROTATIONS IN SPECIALITY, ACUTE & INTENSIVE CARE MEDICINE (F2 and IMT ready)

 

The Trust is recruiting to Trust Trainee rotations including emergency medicine, acute medicine, medical specialties (including respiratory, gastroenterology, endocrinology, rheumatology, haematology, infectious diseases, oncology) and intensive care. Each rotation will be 12 months duration and include 2 specialties, acute medicine and elderly care blocks.

 

While not London Deanery funded Core Medical Training rotations, these are all training posts with full educational and clinical supervision. All trainees will be enrolled onto the Royal College of Physicians e-portfolio (Foundation or CMT/IMT) and be entitled to study leave. The trust’s PACES teaching and ‘medical SHO procedures course’ will be available to all trainees.

 

Trainees will have the opportunity to achieve sign off for Alternative Certificate for Foundation Competence (for F2) or Alternative Certificate of Core Competence (for IMT) depending on their stage of training and performance. IMT (Internal Medicine Training is the UKs new training scheme for medicine that replaces CMT (Core Medical Training) and the first year of Specialty Registrar training. It’s aim to is better prepare trainees for the rigors of being a medical registrar and consultant in a changing NHS. All trainees will undergo a mid-year GMC approved SARD appraisal and end of year ARCP with the training programme directors.

 

We hope these posts will be attractive to both those post CMT, pre IMT, ACCS or Core Anaesthetic training. All trainees will be expected to progress through MRCP (or FRCA) examinations as required and/or apply for core medical, anaesthetic or specialty training during these posts. In addition for those not applying for deanery posts and who have enjoyed working at the trust, there will be the option of renewing the contract for another year. Such an arrangement would be made before the next recruitment cycle.

Essential

  • GMC registration
  • Previous medical experience in the UK of at least 6 months
  • At least one year’s medical experience at F1 level or above
  • Sound general medical knowledge
  • Sound communication skills and ability to work within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team
  • Keen to learn and train in busy Major Acute Hospital
