Permanent contract – Full time

This opportunity for a Specialty Doctor in Medicine will be part of the resident physician rota, providing lead to cardiopulmonary resuscitation and immediate input to the management of deteriorating and acutely unwell patients. The post holder, as part of the medical on call team, contributes significantly to the provision of “peri-operative medicine”, particularly the prevention, detection and management of post operative conditions.

There is a large volume of elective orthopaedic surgery carried out at the Trust. Patients who undergo these procedures as inpatients are generally having major interventions, are from progressively older age groups and with long term medical conditions.

The post holder will also be required to provide medical support to the spinal injuries unit and care of elderly ward.

The duty rota, currently rostered between associate specialists and specialty doctors, involves 12 hour shifts, which includes days, nights and weekends.

The hospital is known for its orthopaedic and rehabilitation services, which include the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries (MCSI), Rheumatology, Arthritis Research Centre, Metabolic Bone Service, Neuromuscular Disorders, ORLAU (Orthotic Research and Locomotor Assessment Unit), Gait Laboratory, Spinal Disorders Centre, Paediatric Orthopaedic Rehabilitation and Care of the Elderly. All orthopaedic subspecialties are provided including acute hand surgery, complex revision arthroplasty and bone tumour work.

RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry is world renowned as a postgraduate teaching institution and provides for the West Midlands orthopaedic specialist registrar training program and spinal injuries contribution to rehabilitation medicine training.

The post is available on a full time basis (10 programmed activities) plus additional programmed activities, related to pattern of work (up to 2).

MB BS & current ALS (or equivalent) considered essential along with comprehensive general medical training to meet specialty doctor entry requirements. You will be a currently practicing registered medical practitioner with the General Medical Council (GMC), and to hold a license to practice.
