The Speech & Language Therapy team at Basildon Hospital have a long history of developing band 5 therapists to be confident, effective and skilled practitioners. As two of our team have now progressed to band 6 posts, we would like to offer the successful applicant the opportunity to share in this history and develop skills learnt in university and placements/first posts to complete your NQT competencies. Proactive training and supervision in dysphagia management occurs from commencement of the post, and as your confidence and skill set increase we actively support exposure to videofluoroscopy, and have plans for FEES observation as we develop this service within the team.

The post will rotate with 2 other band 5 post holders across acute stroke management and general ward service provision. We have specialist and highly specialist therapists who have specific skills in voice, progressive neurological conditions, head & neck cancers and complex dysphagia who are available to support the successful candidates in management of a variety of patients who access BTUH services. As your skills and confidence increase there may also be the opportunity to have a small out-patient caseload to help you become exposed to a variety of patient groups and treatment methods.

Our service always strives to provide evidence based practice, whilst keeping the patient at the centre of our focus and care, and balancing the pressures of caseload capacities and other management issues. We pride ourselves on having an excellent record of service provision, and no formal complaints for over 15 years. The team is friendly and caring of each other as well as the patients, and we welcome fresh ideas and are proactive in looking at new assessment/treatment options as research grows within speech & language therapy community as a whole.
