Neonatal nurse

Job Reference: 188-NM1133

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton
£24,214 - £30,112 pa pro

We have exciting opportunities for band 5 nurses to join our specialist neonatal team at Princess Anne Hospital starting September 2019. The neonatal unit is an integral part of our women and newborn services at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).

We are looking for nurses with neonatal experience who are ready to start the qualified specialty training this year.

We care for a population across the south coast region, providing intensive, high and special care as well as having a community outreach team. We are currently undergoing expansion, with plans to open a separate nurse-led special care ward by mid-2019. This will provide the opportunity to rotate between intensive and high care to the new special care ward. We host the regional transfer service, Southampton Oxford Neonatal Transport (SONeT), ensuring that families receive care in the most appropriate hospital, closest to their home. We are able to offer a range of specialities to our patients here in Southampton, including neonatal surgery and cardiac services.

We feel passionate that families should feel involved in their baby’s care and work in partnership with them. This is reflected in the receipt of the ‘Improving Care Award’ from Bliss to our unit in 2016. We are funded to achieve British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) staffing recommendations by 2020; you could be a part of our staffing plan enabling us to achieve this.

The unit can provide a wide range of varied experiences, if your passion is for special care, we can support this as your primary role, and likewise, if intensive care is your interest, there are many projects for you to be involved in. If you are dynamic and have the skills and motivation our career and education pathway is able to take your career all the way from band 5 to advanced neonatal nurse practitioner.

We work in partnership with NHS Professionals and are happy to discuss applications for our nursing bank.

    • We put patients first and will support your drive to deliver compassionate care to all babies and their families.

    • We work together with you to enable you to be a key team member, inspirer and motivator to your colleagues. We will provide you with the guidance and support you need to assist you in achieving your maximum potential.

    • We are always improving, embracing our continued involvement with research. We invest in our staff’s education, training and development. We are open to your ideas to improve efficiency and service. We will empower you to have a strong sense of ownership for the unit and team members.

You will be a registered nurse (RN/RSCN/RM/RN-child), with proven experience post qualification. You will need to demonstrate knowledge of the neonatal specialism, an ability to provide excellent clinical care and a willingness to learn and expand on a range of specialist skills.
