We’re looking for people with previous early years’ care experience to join our friendly, close-knit team providing superb standards of childcare in our Taplins nurseries. If you have experience of working with 3 month – 5 year old children in a paid or voluntary position in a formal childcare setting, such as a nursery, we’d love to hear from you.

To be successful in this post, you’ll need to demonstrate experience in a formal childcare setting. This means that experience of childcare is in an informal setting, such as babysitting, will not meet our requirements.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Do you love nothing more than seeing a child progress, knowing that you’ve played a key part in their development? Are you hardworking, friendly and dependable – and looking for your next challenge? Then this may be the role for you!

Our nursery staff care for children aged 3 months to 5 years, planning and carrying out activities in line with the Early Years’ curriculum. They are also responsible for evaluating the activities, and for maintaining online learning journals via Tapestry.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

In addition to demonstrable experience in childcare gained in a formal setting such as a nursery, which is essential to the post, you’ll need to have a great sense of fun, be confident and adaptable, and have a passion for working in an Early Years setting.

You also need to be great at liaising with parents/carers and we’re particularly looking for proactive people with brilliant ideas to help us continuously improve our services. All candidates need to be over the age of 17 years and DBS (formerly CRB) and OFSTED checks will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

All our nursery staff need to have an understanding of the early years foundation stage and safeguarding. We also ask that all our nursery staff have GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C or above (or a willingness to study towards it with our support).

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

We have full time and part time opportunities at both our hospital sites (Western Community Hospital/ Southampton General Hospital). Our working hours are between 7am and 6.30pm, so you need to be flexible to work shift patterns within these hours

    • Competitive salary and benefits

    • 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) rising to 33 days with long service

    • Access to the UHS Benefits platform for discounted products and services

    • Salary sacrifice for full childcare costs at either Taplins nursery (saving approx. 25%)

    • Access to further training and development

UHS as a trust has been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC, and is one of England's largest acute teaching trusts. In the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.
