Bedford NHS Trust is a uniquely situated NHS Trust with a relatively small footprint with up to 410 beds and over 2700 staff supporting a planned and reactive healthcare service to a cohort of over 300,000. It’s a great time to be joining our team as we progress plans to join with our colleagues at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to become a new Foundation Trust.

The Trust Boards of Bedford Hospital and Luton and Dunstable University Hospital have agreed to explore plans to merge and form one NHS Trust. Under the umbrella of the single NHS Trust, both hospitals will retain their identity and individual hospital names. All key services will remain on both sites and will be managed as single teams across the whole Bedfordshire catchment area. This will bring many benefits for patients including much improved continuity of care.


What will I be doing in my new role?

Working within a busy and varied HR department, this is a demanding role which requires enthusiasm, resilience, drive and effective organisational skills to ensure tight deadlines are met and HR quality standards are maintained. The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously when required, and have the credibility and confidence to deal with a range of staff across the organisitions including experience of working with trade union representatives.

You should possess strong, generalist HR experience, a business focus and a proven ability to provide a professional HR service in the delivery of advice and support activities including absence and sickness management, disciplinary and grievance processes, job evaluation, interpretation of policies and procedures.

 

You will work with managers to enable the achievement of performance management standards and you will also be required to support change management. A working knowledge of employment legislation is therefore essential.

Bedford Hospital is situated in a beautiful part of the UK in the county of Bedfordshire. Bedford is a riverside town with easy access to quiet unspoilt countryside, which can become useful after a fulfilling shift. Bedford is one of, if not the most, cosmopolitan town in the UK with over 50 different ethnic groups represented.

 

It now provides a wide range of services which include beds for Care of the Elderly, ENT, General Medicine, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Neonatal, Obstetrics, Oncology, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Vascular Surgery, Breast Surgery and Urology. A modern Accident and Emergency Department includes a 6 bedded observation ward. The Critical Care Complex provides both High Dependency and Intensive Care beds to a maximum capacity of 12 beds.

Probationary Period
