Locum Consultant Medical Retina Ophthalmologist

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our dedicated and professional multi-discipline ophthalmic team, to cover a 12 month Sabbatical.

Applicants will be encouraged to develop their subspecialty expertise and to support the development of a leading ophthalmic consultant team. The Ophthalmology service offers general ophthalmic care and a high volume cataract service as well as medical retina, oculoplastic surgery, glaucoma care and paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus surgery. Vitreoretinal services are provided by Moorfields Eye Hospital.

You will be a highly valued member of the team bringing your expertise and skills to a Medical Retina service which is running and is busy.

A sub-speciality interest in Medical Retina is necessary and an interest in Paediatric Ophthalmology would be particularly welcomed.

This post would furthermore be ideal for a candidate looking for a change, a challenge and to champion the service through future leadership and management opportunities.

The job is to cover a sabbatical and a substantive post will be advertised in the near future.

At the forefront of delivering high quality healthcare within the local communities our friendly department has an excellent track record in patient experience and clinical success.

This is a 10 PA appointment with a general ophthalmic emergency on-call commitment only 9-5pm. As a Locum Consultant you will be required to participate in Consultant Appraisal and Job Plan Reviews on an annual basis and the revalidation process in line with your professional registration. The successful candidate will be expected to work across the two hospital sites (Watford General Hospital and St Albans City Hospital).

West Hertfordshire NHS Trust is committed to assisting all employees to achieve a work-life balance, regardless of their personal circumstances. Any applicant who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full-time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
