Specialty Doctor in Oncology

Applications are invited for a Specialty Doctor in Oncology at North Devon District Hospital

A 10 PA programme (inc 1.5 SPA in this time) has been drawn up for the successful candidate which includes a number of outpatient clinics a week and support to wards, ED and the Seamoor Unit.

This post will be based at the North Devon District Hospital, which provides a service to a population of 170,000. The Trust is an integral part of the Peninsula Medical School. The Trust covers the north and parts of East Devon as well as a small portion of North Cornwall.

Located in the South West of England, North Devon is recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty. It extends from the edge of Exmoor in the east to Lundy Island in the west and the Taw Valley in the south providing contrasts of moor land, downs, valleys, rugged cliffs and golden sandy beaches thus providing a range of interests and activities.

The North Devon Healthcare Trust serves a widespread local population, as well as thousands of visitors to North Devon each year. So come and join us and be part of helping to develop and improve our local healthcare services.

For an informal discussion or to visit the hospital, prospective candidates are welcome to contact Dr Kate Scatchard, Lead Clinician for Oncology on(01271) 311538

We actively encourage applications from all sectors of the community regardless of sex, age, racial origin, religion, belief or disability and we are committed to Equal Opportunities.

We offer flexible working arrangements, career opportunities and encourage work-life balance.

We thank you for your interest in us and look forward to receiving your application.

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples’ independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient’s stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

According to many clinical targets, we rate as one of the best performing non-foundation trusts in England, because we treat patients in line with national waiting time standards, have very few hospital-acquired infections and meet our four-hour waiting times for urgent care. We have a huge range of clinical expertise that we share across professional spheres to ensure people get world-class care when they need it.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
