We are the largest provider of NHS services across the County of Cumbria. Around 3500 staff operate 60 community and mental health services from over 20 main sites and many other premises shared with other health or community services such as GP surgeries. In any one year we see around one fifth of the population providing health care services to people in Cumbria, from newborn babies to care of the frail and elderly. Our services are organised into care groups, designed to put clinicians in control of decision making with patients and carers so that services are run by experts in the clinical area.


South Lakes Community Mental Health Assessment and Recovery Team (CMHART) are looking to recruit a qualified Band 6 Senior Mental Health Practitioner. This is a 37.5hour contract. The successful candidate will initially work into the Non Psychosis Service Line and undertake CMHART tasks as required. The post is suitable for registered Mental Health Nurses, Social Worker and Occupational Therapists

You will need to be clinically confident in working with individuals in a community setting and be able to work effectively in a multi professional context. You should have a collaborative and enthusiastic approach as well as passion and commitment in developing and promoting recovery based approaches for adults with mental health related needs.

As a Care Coordinator you will manage a caseload of service users with a range of complex needs. You will develop care plans and deliver evidence based interventions and treatments to patients alongside managing risks in the community.

Part of your role will require you to undertake the role of team duty worker. This role involves supporting the team’s Assessment Practitioner with screening duties, managing unplanned patient work within the team and responding to escalation of risk/crisis situations.

The post requires that you are a good communicator, and are able to adopt a flexible, adaptable and proactive approach to your work.

The service is based at Garburn House, Westmorland General Hospital, Kendal the service is operational between the hours of 9.00am and 5pm however some out of hours working may be necessary to meet service demands.

In return you will benefit from encouragement to continue to develop your own specialist knowledge and competence. Your development will be guided using clinical supervision, operational supervision, team/peer support, training opportunities and using the Trust’s appraisal process

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £26 + Administration cost of £4 = deduction from salary as a one off payment or over 3months at £10 a month

Enhanced Check: £44 + administration cost of £4 = deduction from salary as one off payment or £15 deduction from 1st months salary, £11 deduction from salary over following 3 months.
